Ingredients:
- 1 large sweet onion cut in 1/2-inch-thick rounds, then separated into rings
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- Optional - 1 tablespoon grated Romano cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (or crackers crumbled into panko size pieces)
- Cooking spray
Instructions:
- Preheat air fryer for 5 minutes at 400 degrees. (I also preheated my oven, so I could make up all the rings at the same time.)
- Mix together flour and spices in a dish that you can easily dip the largest onion ring into
- In another dish, lightly beat the egg and 1 tablespoon water
- In a third dish, place the panko/crumbs
- Dredge each onion ring in flour, then in egg mix, then into panko/crumbs. Place on a plate while you coat the others.
- Lightly spray both sides of the rings with coking spray.
- Place rings in the air fryer, add a rack, and place in additional rings. Air fry for 10 minutes or so. (It may help to flip them at about 6 minutes.)
- Place the extra rings on a cookie sheet in the pre-heated oven for 10 minutes or so.
