I wanted to try making Butterbeer Bars, based on my Chocolate Chip blondies.
Ingredients:
- 625 gr (5 cups) all-purpose flour
- 226 gr (1 cup, aka 2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
- 226 gr (1 cup) sourdough starter
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 600 gr (3 cups) brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 410 gr (12 ounces, ~ 2.5 cups) mix of 170 gr butterscotvh chip, 120 gr white chocolate chips , and 120 gr semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°. Line a half baking sheet (13 x 18-inch pan) with parchment paper and set aside. (Use parchment paper not a Silpat line for easier removal and cutting.)
- In a medium bowl add flour, salt and baking soda and mix well and set aside.
- In large bowl add both brown and granulated sugars, eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract and mix well.
- Add in the sourdough starter and mix well.
- Gradually add flour mixture to butter mixture until combined.
- Stir in most of chips, reserving maybe 1/4 to sprinkle on top.
- Press in pan, spreading to edges of pan.
- Sprinkle on the reserved chips, press in slightly.
- Bake for 26-28 minutes.
- Let cool on wire rack, then remove using the parchment and cut into pieces.
Carole's Notes:
We liked this! The bars are like a soft chewy chocolate chop cookie.
This could make 48 bars - depending on how large you cut them.
The recipe is lightly adapted from Chocolate Chip blondies and https://zestysouthindiankitchen.com/sourdough-chocolate-chip-cookie-bars/
