Ingredients:
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 3⁄4 cup sugar
- 3⁄4 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup sourdough starter (party remove when feeding)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cups self rising flour
- 2 cups all purpose flour
(or use 3 cups all purpose plus 1⁄4 teaspoon baking powder and 1⁄4 teaspoon baking soda - 1 teaspoon salt
- 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips (can add in chopped nuts as well)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- In a medium bowl, whisk salt and flour together.
(Whisk in baking soda and baking powder if you are using them) - Cream together the butter, sugar, and brown sugar with a stand mixer.
- Gently mix in the starter until combined
(Mixing in starter by hand is recommended, I’m not sure why) - Mix in the egg and the vanilla.
- Slowly add the flour mixture
- Fold in the chocolate chips
(and nuts if using) - No need to chill these! Using a large cookie scoop (2 tablespoons or so), spray lightly with cookie spray.
(I sprayed the scoop every 15 or so cookies, or every cookie sheet.) - place level scoop of dough on a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper or Silpat sheet.
(They will spread some, so place 1.5 inches or so apart.) - Bake 12-14 minutes, or until starting to turn golden brown around the edges.
- Let cool a couple of minutes on the pan, then remove cookies to cool on cooling rack.
- Store those you don't eat in air tight container.
Carole's Notes:
Doug was initially troubled - why make sourdough cookies? We found that they taste great, and have a nice soft texture. (Doug likes soft cookies, and he approves!) They are still soft on day 2, when stored in an air tight container.
Recipe is lightly adapted from http://www.food.com/recipe/sourdough-chocolate-chip-cookies-487587 - it makes about 36 cookies.
